Follow These 3 Simple Anti-Aging Tips and Delay The Inevitable

Simple Anti-Aging TipsWe all know that aging is a natural part of life. However not everyone ages equally.

Signs of aging on your skin develop as a result of damaged collagen or reduced collagen production. As we age, constant exposure to the sun eventually leads to collagen damage. Not to mention the undeniable fact that the process of collagen formation slows down as we age.

Not everyone has the money for fancy anti-aging procedures and/or surgeries, but everyone does have the power to delay aging from rearing its ugly head.

Here are some simple anti-aging tip reminders to revisit so you can delay the aging process (even if just a teeny bit ;) ):

Anti-oxidants, Super Foods and Vitamins

I’ve talked before about the truly amazing anti-aging benefits of antioxidants. These natural elixirs of nature scavenge the potentially destructive oxygen free-radicals that form as a result of injury or inflammation. By adding antioxidant-rich foods to your daily diet, such as berries, tomatoes, and green tea, as well using antioxidant-enriched skin care products, they can potentially benefit your skin!

Avoid Smoking – Don’t Even Do It ‘Socially’

I’ve been trying to get my sister to stop for years. Her 32nd birthday is coming up at the end of this month, and as she ‘whines’ about getting older AND not wanting wrinkles, *quitting smoking* seems to still fall on deaf ears. Theoretically, this is so simple to do, but for established smokers, not so much, if at all.

ALL the time I ask her to take a look and compare the faces of smokers and nonsmokers, because for the most part, there is a significant difference. And this does not only pertain to wrinkles, but to the quality of the skin itself.

Just think, smoking causes damage to all cells of the body, and has been conclusively proven to cause some kinds of cancer. What makes you think (or my sister for that matter) that it will leave your skin unscathed?

Limit Sun Worshipping

You have to admit that everyone enjoys the occasional sunbathing experience once in a while. Not only does it even out blotchy complexions, but it also adds a healthy-looking glow.

I personally admit to relaxing on my balcony today for about an hour, to get a little glow (sans sunscreen too – such a no-no). The lovely 80 degree fall weather we’re having tempted me.

I usually use self-tanners, but since I’ve run out and haven’t bought new ones, I thought – what’s an hour going to hurt. Yeah. Right. What’s an hour going to hurt when you’re not wearing sunscreen. Not a smart move. Hence, this ‘reminders’ post!

Anyway, we need to remind ourselves that the effects of sun exposure accumulate over time, leading to the formation of crinkle lines and other types of wrinkles. Eventually, our skin will appear tough and leathery, and that may be acceptable to men, but not to women.

So please girls, remember that moderation is key when it comes to the sun, and adhere to the cardinal rule of applying sunscreen. And always, ALWAYS, wear sunglasses in the sun to provide protection for the delicate skin around your eyes, and lessen squinting.

Be Kind To Your Skin

Using warm water and gentle products are best for your skin. Keep in mind that constant and recurrent cleansing using hot water can strip away your skin’s natural moisture. Harsh chemical and soap-containing skin care products do the same.

And, if you’re on a budget, don’t think you have to suffer through crappy skin care. There are still really affordable gentle products out on the market. This budget-mindful momma definitely knows!

Your Inner-Being

Happy girls are the prettiest ~ Audrey Hepburn

A relaxed and positive outlook and attitude can do wonders for both inner peace and outer beauty. When you are relaxed and happy, your facial muscles also relax. We can all spot those cranky, sour-full or stressed out to the max people whose faces are definitely paying a hefty price. Constant worrying and negativity brings about those dreaded furrows – that ‘11’ between the eyebrows, or more wrinkles of the forehead. So, if you can’t afford, or aren’t into ‘Botox’, then you’re gonna have a problem!

Delaying the inevitable is possible even if you follow these simple anti-aging tips, you just have to stay on top of it! And more importantly, let your inner beauty shine :)
